Edibles in Halloween Candy?!
This past Halloween has brought much controversy as government officials are claiming that Halloween candy could possibly be laced with THC. However, most teens state that no idiot is going to give out their drugs for free. Nevertheless, police continue to warn parents and state that edible forms of marijuana can pose great risks to young children. Police claim that marijuana candies contain THC levels as high as 90 percent compared to the 10-20 percent in the marijuana plant. In fact, the levels are so high that multiple children have been brought to the emergency room after consuming marijuana candy. In order to prevent this issue from occurring, it’s important that parents check their children’s bags for:
- Unusual packaging–normally homemade or in plastic bags
- Traditional and colorful packaging
- Packaging similar to actual candy that resemble name brands, such as Buddahfinger and 3 Rastateers
- Odor similar to the marijuana plant
They warned that if your child experienced any of the symptoms below after Halloween, you should call the Poison Center.
- Dizzyness
- Shallow breathing
- Red eyes
- Dilated pupils
- Dry mouth
- Increased appetite
- Reduced reaction time
- Paranoia
- Distorted sense of time
As parents, it’s important to always be cautious and aware in order to prevent your child from consuming marijuana. Don’t be the parent that has the really high child because you didn’t check the candy!
