NFL Outlook Article 5

We are finally halfway through the NFL season and there are still crazy upsets and unpredictable trades throughout the NFL.

FLY EAGLES FLY! The Philadelphia Eagles just dropped 51 points on one of the best defenses in the country in the Denver Broncos. The Eagles continue to strengthen their hold on the NFC East with the best record in the NFL. Carson Wentz is also giving the NFL a MVP caliber performance again and again, and is looking like he will take home the MVP this season. The Broncos started the third string quarterback in Brock Osweiler, who has been signed 4 different times in the last 2 years. The biggest disappointment was not his 2 interceptions and lackluster play, but the Denver defense with a Super Bowl MVP and multiple pro bowl players, that got gashed on Sunday. The head coach of the Broncos took full responsibility and is lost as to how to solve their defensive woes and try to salvage their season.

AP goes AD! That is Adrian Peterson goes All Day with a career high 37 attempts which gave him 159 yards. He averaged over 4 yards a carry, which is among the best of all running backs in the league. Many experts wrote Peterson off after a dismal start to the season with the Saints. However, with more carriers in one game than in his full tenure with the Saints, it seems that Adrian has proven his critics wrong again. They played a 49ers team that just made the biggest trade before the trade deadline last week. They traded for the backup quarterback for the New England Patriots in Jimmy Garoppolo. He has worked with Tom Brady, one of the best quarterbacks in Patriot’s franchise history, and has performed well when Brady was suspended last season. The 49ers are also going to have the number 2 draft pick in the upcoming draft, which they could trade for a bunch of other picks to really boost their team. The 49ers could have a quick turn around like the Rams did this year. The NFC West will be an even more crazy division next year.

It is over! With Deshaun Watson’s season ending injury, it is also the end of the playoff hopes for the Houston Texans. They lost their first game without Deshaun, and it was to the dismal Indianapolis Colts. With mediocre quarterback play at best by Texan’s backup Tom Savage, and without star defensive players in JJ Watt and Whitney Merciless, the Texans are all but done for the season. Watson was a short-lived rookie sensation that already set a rookie record with most touchdown passes through his first seven games with 19, which beat out Hall of Famer Kurt Warner. Watson was projected to have 42 touchdowns by the end of the year and was the runaway favorite for rookie of the year. With the Texans being in one of the worst divisions in the NFL, they had a great chance to win the AFC South and secure a playoff spot in the weak AFC Conference. Hopefully the Texans can regroup over the off season, add a key player in their secondary, and come back stronger than ever to have a ligament shot at winning it all.

WWE SMACKDOWN!! In the left corner we have the calm guy with no prior history of fighting a kind demeanor. In the right corner we have the boastful, arrogant, chirpy, annoying player…and the winner is the calm player in AJ Green. He took some of John Cena’s moves when he smashed Jalen Ramsey into the turf, threw an array of punches at him, and then picked him up and duplexed him again! This action was caused by the antics and after the whistle physical contact by Ramsey. Both players were ejected from the game, but neither will be suspended because they were ejected in the first quarter, so they missed most of that game anyway. A huge fight like this happens once in a blue moon in the NFL, as the worst that usually happens is a little scuffle with some pushing and shoving. Yet on the same day there was another huge brawl between NFC South Rival Saints and Bucs. After the play, quarterback Jamies Winston poked Saint’s cornerback in the back of the neck. Lattimore responded, but was than blindsided by 6’5’’ and 225 pounds of Mike Evans. Evans slammed full speed into the back of Lattimore which slammed him right into the ground. Evans will be suspended for the next game, and the starter for the fight, Jamies Winston, is being sat out for a few weeks with a ‘sore shoulder.’ Seems like the coaching staff wants to teach the franchise player a lesson: that he needs to mature quickly. Another interesting observation is both Mike Evans and AJ Green are on losing teams that had playoff aspirations at the beginning of the year. Half way through the season the star wideouts are telling their teams how they really feel.
