Girls’ Golf Team Going for Gold

Eliot Leadem, Editor

In the legendary words of fellow editor Jack Niesse, as fall sports “are in full swing, one sport gets swept under the mat.” This autumn, however, wrestling is not that sport. Academic Magnet Girls’ Golf is this season’s underrated sport, led by the noteworthy Coach Stackhouse and Co-Captains Lydia Heath and Isabel Root. The team’s home course is at Patriot’s Point, where they recently snagged their first victory against Cane Bay. Sophomore Carson Goodier leads the team at the #1 seed, where she can shoot consistently in the low 50s. In the match against Cane Bay, Carson shot the best score and was the medalist of the match, which guarantees your name being featured in the Post & Courier the following morning.

The Talon sat down with Isabel Root to learn more about the team and notable occurrences this season.

First of all, and most importantly, what is your favorite club?

Driver

Who is your favorite golfer?

Jason Stackhouse, no doubt.

Are there any special matches I should know of?

Well, we had a thrashing victory over Cane Bay. It was really exciting. Also, BE invited us over to Daniel Island to play in a match… and that is always an important one.

Do you all follow the boys team’s Taco Bell tradition after matches?

Not quite. There is a movement within the team to go to Pizza Hut instead.

Judging from last season with the guys’ team, we had a lot of memorable moments. Are there any specific ones you remember?

One practice, the golf pro let Coach Stackhouse try a golf scooter and it was hilarious.

Girls vs. guys match in the future?

Soon!
