Trident Technical College: A Hidden Jewel in North Charleston and Computers Everywhere
Trident Technical College is a convenient college option for those who may be looking for a two year degree, cheap tuition, online instruction, or easy scheduling. The college offers more than 150 programs of study, including numerous transfer programs for those students wishing to continue their studies at a four year college. Students prepare for careers in business; industrial and engineering technology; aeronautical studies; health care; hospitality, tourism and culinary arts; film, media and visual arts; law-related studies; community, family and child studies; humanities and social sciences; and science and mathematics.
Trident is also an affordable option for any young scholar. As the president of Trident, Mary Thornley, states, “One year at Trident Tech costs less than half of the tuition at most four-year colleges, and S.C. Lottery-funded Tuition Assistance makes higher education even more affordable at Trident Tech.” The college is also very cheap for online classes, costing only about $500 per class. This price may seem slightly high, but you are paying for the easy life flexibility that comes with the ability to take a class anywhere there is internet.
The college’s online instruction is phenomenal. Speaking from personal experience, the online teachers are willing to help you, and even meet with you in person, to make sure you grasp all of the important concepts. When I enrolled in online Spanish 201 this past fall, my instructor, Cheryl Novak, assisted me in ordering the textbook and recording/sending my audio homework in. In a similar experience, senior Carter Shubert took both online Spanish 201 and 202. When asked how the online instruction was, he stated, “The teacher always responded promptly to my emailed questions and the website was very user friendly.”
Finally, Trident Tech’s scheduling was smooth and flawless. Upon turning in my paperwork to sign up for the class, I was immediately put in the online class lobby and given a schedule. The teacher planned out all homework for the month in advance, giving students the opportunity to work ahead. Similarly, transferring my grades from Trident back to my Magnet transcript was simple and happened automatically. Overall, I enjoyed my experience with Trident Technical College, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a two year degree or a few online classes.
