Raptors Get Cultured

Ryan Pace and Lexi DeHart

January 27th 2017 is a day that will change the world forever. The Migos will be releasing their second studio album, entitled Culture. Offset said that, “The new album title is about the culture of hip hop music. It’s time to let the culture be known. It’s time to claim it. And it’s time to claim that we are the Migos, and for people to understand that this is what we did. We did a lot for music. Migos is the culture. Seriously. There are artists that are way bigger than us that get recognition off our flow.” Needless to say, the album is highly anticipated, not only by rap lovers but the rest of the world too. After Donald Glover’s shoutout to their song Bad and Boujee at the Golden Globe awards, the song has maintained a spot at the top of the charts or nearing it for the past two months.

In the song Bad and Boujee, the men remark that they “came from nothin’ to somethin'”, which could make you wonder about their past. The Migos are originally from Lawrenceville, Georgia where they formed their group in 2009. Many are also unaware that they are all related, Quavious Marshall also known as Quavo, 22, is the cousin of Offset, whose real name is Kiari Cephus, also 22. Takeoff, who is 19 years old, born Kirshnik Ball, is Quavo’s nephew. Takeoff told sources that the group began rapping in the seventh grade, as they were all living in the same household. It was when Drake chose to remix one of their songs entitled Versace that the group really got big. Their debut album Yung Rich Nation released in 2015, sold 15,000 copies and the following year Kanye West announced that the group signed with Def Jam Records.

The singles included on the album include Bad and Boujee which is currently #1 in the country and has received major recognition, as well as Call Casting, T-Shirt and What the Price. The setlist is as follows…

  1. Culture (feat. DJ Khaled)
  2. T-shirt
