How to Have a Great Thanksgiving

Ryan Pace, Staff Writer

With Thanksgiving upon us, it is time to start thinking about how you will spend this special holiday. November 24th can be a joyous occasion, whether you choose to spend it with your friends, family or even by yourself. This day can also be a stressful one for some who need to feed big crowds or are hosting the Thanksgiving dinner in their home. The following are some of my favorite ways to make the most of your turkey day.

  1. Start the day off right My favorite way to start my Thanksgiving is with the Turkey Trot through downtown Charleston. The 5k run is scenic, and provides a free long sleeve shirt which makes for a great Thanksgiving Day outfit. Whether you choose a brisk walk or a full-on spring this race is sure to boost your metabolism in preparation for the whopping amount of food you will consume later on.
  2. The Parade The coveted Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a tradition enjoyed by many. Watching the parade with your family and friends in a cozy pair of pajama’s with a warm beverage can be a euphoric experience. (Side note: If you choose to partake in the race, be sure to prerecord the parade on your TV)
  3. Get cookin’ Trying a new recipe can be a fun experience for the entire family. Pinterest can be a great option for finding Thanksgiving recipes, whether you are searching for something quick and easy or a gourmet dish.
  4. Take a nap If you are planning on participating in a Black Friday shopping excursion, it is important to catch some z’s before doing so. You may also want to prepare for the hectic event by checking out certain coupons and opening times for your favorite stores.
  5. Give thanks Most importantly, remember what the holiday is all about. Be sure to take the time to talk about what your thankful for with your friends and family this Thanksgiving. These could be big or small things in life, but no matter what it is important to remind yourself that you are fortunate for what you have.

P.S. Don’t forget to send some of your delicious plates in to the Magnet Menu on Instagram this holiday.
