How to travel cheap?
Can you travel around the world for free (or at least really cheap)? The answer for that is yes, it is possible. After looking in different websites and blogs I have gathered some of the most popular advice to travel cheap. So, if you always wanted to visit a place, but you never knew how to get the money to make your dream come true, maybe some of this advice would help you.
- One of the most popular advice was this: Take advantage of everything you can. There are hundreds of opportunities that can make your travel cost half of its actual price. If you are planning to being away for a time you can rent your house and cover part of the travel expenses or even made a house-swap; rent an apartment instead of going to a hotel while you are travelling can be cheaper for you too. Finally you also can consider carpooling with someone; there are many secure websites where you can find someone to share the trip.
- Volunteer and fundraise. If you want to travel and you also like to help other people and doing community work this can be a good option for you. You won’t visit the most luxurious place on the earth. but you would be working for a good cause and many of the organizations would cover most of your travel expenses.
- Find a job on a cruise ship, the hotel where you are staying or a short-term work. This small jobs can help you travel around the world and you would earn some money too. If you don’t want to do a low-wage job you always can teach English, native teachers are scarce and they are well paid.
- If you are a student and you are fluent in other languages you always can apply for a travel scholarship, “internationalization” it’s one of the purposes of many colleges these days and you would find many funds to study abroad. Even if you have already finished your studies you can search for opportunities related to them. And I can say that the experience it’s totally worth it.
- Always check small airlines before getting a ticket from a bigger one, usually small airlines would have cheaper flights and even get a ticket for little more than the taxes. Moreover, many of the big airlines would have special offers that give you travel miles only for shopping in a certain website or watching a video. Finally, if you are open to the adventure you can just pack some clothes, go to the airport and wait until the last moment to buy a ticket for that day; just before flying almost all the airlines sell their last tickets at a bargain price, the problem is that you wouldn’t know where you are going to go until the last moment.
- Offer to write about your travels. If you start becoming popular with your reviews, hotels, airlines… would offer you rooms, flights.. so you can give your opinion about them and they can get more customers. Many cities would offer free walking tours in which you can learn about the city and other type of things that you can write about. Everyone wins!
- Don’t eat always at a restaurant!! This can be your biggest mistake, only by cooking half of your meals you can save about $75 per week.
I hope you can use some of this advice and even you can’t use them right now remember, travel doesn’t have to be always expensive. These are some websites that can be useful for you:
