We’ve Been Played: It was NOT the Titanic that sank

Conspiracy Theories, Part Two

Chief Steward of SS Prinz Adalbert

The iceberg that sank the Titanic… or was it the Olympic

The The Titanic never sank, it was all a scam.

The Titanic the largest and the nicest cruise liner of its time hit an iceberg on its maiden voyage at the wee hours of the morning of April 15, 1912. Within three hours of being hit the liner had sunk to the bottom of the ocean killing 1500 of its 2224 passengers and crew, including Jack Dawson :'(.

The Titanic was 1 of 3 cruise liners built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast for the White Star Line. The other two ships were named the RMS Brittanic and the RMS Olympic. The Brittanic sank to the bottom of the Mediterranean during WWI. The tale of the Olympic is told below.

The Olympic, launched a year before the Titanic, had just as bad of luck. Within the year it was launched in 1911 it had 2 collisions with two different ships. The later collision with the Royal Navy cruiser HSM Hawke took place off the coast of the Isle of Wight a medium sized island off the southern coast of England. This collision caused serious structural damage to both the Olympic’s keel and steel beams of the body. The repairs would be too expensive sending the already struggling White Star Line into financial ruin. In other words the Olympic was totaled.

Supposedly, the owner of White Star Line JP Morgan came up with an insurance scam to hopefully salvage the lost cause that is the Olympic.

The Olympic, remember it is totaled, was swapped with the Titanic and then sunk in a staged “accident”. The Titanic would then be disguised as the Olympic and carry on its services. The Olympic and the Titanic were basically identical. They were both docked in the same dry dock. All that would need to be done is to simply swap some nameplates and plaques.

Robin Gardiner wrote in his book “Titanic- The Ship that Never Sank” evidence that the Olympic, disguised as the Titanic was intentionally sunk.  7 pieces of evidence that the Olympic was in fact sunk intentionally are below and 5 pieces of evidence that it was the Titanic itself that sank in a freak accident follow.

Evidence the Olympic was sunk intentionally:

  1. Portholes- The Olympic had exactly 16 portholes while the Titanic had 14. Photographs taken of the Titanic while it was in dry dock show it with 14 portholes. While photos taken before its fateful journey showed the Titanic with 16 portholes, just like the Olympic. The portholes on the Olympic were unevenly spaced while the Titanic had more evenly spaced portholes. The Titanic  had acquired unevenly spaced windows before its maiden voyage. Very interesting…
  2. List to Port (leans towards the port side)- Because of the Olympic’s wrecks it had a noticeable 2 degree list to port. One of the few second class passengers to have survived the sinking, Lawrence Beesley, reported that the Titanic did have a slight list to port. Beesley was a science teacher, making him a reliable observer. He also wrote the first book about the Titanic disaster.
  3. Rumours amongst the Crew- Before the Titanic’s launch a nationwide coal strike left many firemen, boiler stokers, and greasers without work. Yet many of these men refused to work on the Titanic for any price. Rumours were circulating around the White Star Line that the Titanic had been swapped with the Olympic. Also even with the huge hype and fanfare surrounding the launch of the Titanic it was only a little over half full upon its departure. Was JP Morgan trying to limit casualties when the Olympic was ultimately going to be sunk?  Also several high profile first class tickets were cancelled last minute suggesting that these people had knowledge of the scam.
  4. JP Morgan himself cancelled his ticket on the Titanic- JP Morgan the billionaire owner of the White Star Line was scheduled to go on the Titanic’s maiden voyage, but cancelled a few days before departure claiming illness. He was seen the day the Titanic sank in France with his mistress looking perfectly healthy. Also close friends of JP Morgan including Henry Clay Frick, a industrialist, and his wife, Horace J. Harding, a banker, and George Washington Vanderbilt all cancelled their tickets last minute.
  5. Californian- The SS Californian was another large passenger ship owned by JP Morgan that steamed out into the middle of the Atlantic carrying only 3000 woolen blankets and jumpers, no passengers. Was the Californian supposed to rescue the passengers of the sinking Titanic? A survivor, Edith Russel claimed the crew on the Titanic assured her as the ship was sinking the Californian was on its way. The Californian was 12 miles away from the Titanic as it sank because of navigation errors. Those errors cost 1500 people their lives.
  6. The wreck- The wreck discovered by Robert Ballard in 1985 supports the swap theory. A stamp on the propeller of the Titanic read 401. This was the same number found on the propeller on the sunken ship. However, the propeller was previously switched from the Titanic to the Olympic as part of its repairs. Also supporting that the boat on the ocean floor is not the Titanic but the Olympic.
  7. Lack of Media- Insurance scams and maritime fraud were common in the early 1900’s because of the lack of media coverage. It is very unlikely that a scam of this level could be pulled off today, but because there is only one video recording and very few photographs of the Titanic only the most observant person would have spotted the swap.

Evidence that the Titanic sank:

  1. The wreck- Though the wreck supported the swap in some aspects it does not support it in more. The Titanic’s number 401 was found on my artifacts including furniture, and multiple other places on the ship. Was the scam really that detailed?
  2. Differences between the ships- The swap theory is largely based on the similarities between the two ships but there were also many huge differences, including structural changes and aesthetic changes. The first class Deck A was enclosed by a glass screen on the Titanic. This deck was open on the Olympic. The Olympic had a 1st class promenade on Deck B while the Titanic had private verandas and suites. People were booked into these suites which would be impossible if the ship was actually the Olympic.
  3. Loss of Reputation- Many sceptics of the swap theory believe that the loss of reputation for the White Star Line from one of their vessels sinking would be more devastating than the financial loss of the totalled Olympic. “The unsinkable ship” sinking on its maiden voyage would be a publicity disaster and lead customers away from the White Star Line. The intention of the White Star Line was to appeal to rich first class passengers who wanted a luxury and opulence during their travels.
  4. Deliberately sinking a ship- First of all, the Titanic had been described as “unsinkable”. Purposely sinking a ship the size of the Titanic is no easy task. Only a freak set of circumstances could lead to its sinking. If their plan was discovered they would have been charged with the deaths of over 1500 people. Is it really worth risking jail for an insurance scam to save some money?
  5. The Olympic after the Titanic- The Olympic or if the swap theory is true the Titanic, continued to serve for many years. It worked to transport troops during WWI. After the war it continued as a luxury liner during the 20s and 30s before being retired in 1935. In all the time since the sinking of the Titanic no evidence that the Olympic was actually the Titanic was ever found. Even in 1936 when the ship was dismantled for scrap there was no evidence that the ship was not the Olympic.

You should do further research on this topic to decide for yourself. Was the Titanic an insurance scam? Did the billionaire JP Morgan kill 1500 people all to save a couple bucks?
