Spanish parties?
There isn’t anything that Spanish people love more that going to parties, and seriously, is the thing I miss most. We always have at least one per week and they are usually crowded with teenagers that want to have fun. They can be crazy and not everyone likes them, but it would be really weird if we didn’t have them; we are used to going out on Saturdays at twelve at night and coming back home at three or five or later in the morning.
Apart from these small parties we have huge popular ones where everyone gets involved, some of them can result in really stupid things to foreign people but we love them. Here I will talk about some of them:
- The Night of San Juan- This is one of the most popular ones for the young. Basically you join in groups of twenty or thirty people and make a huge bonfire that can last all the night; then you just talk, dance, listen to music… with your friends. The idea is starting at sunset and staying awake until the next morning.
- The Tomatina, the war of wine or the war of meringue- Although they are different parties from different regions they are really similar. They consist of throwing some kind of food on the other people and trying to avoid getting dirty. The person that is most clean at the end of the “war” would win a prize; but where is the fun if you don’t end up covered in something?! Normally there are competitions based in the age of the opponents however if you are watching them you would be attacked anyway
- Finally each city, town or village has their own popular parties; some of them are smaller and others are huge, the most important ones are the Fallas, the carnival of April and the San Fermines.
