SOA Student Hit by Car at Bus Stop
Tuesday morning, as I tiredly sat in Harbor View Road traffic, I noticed a flock of moms jump out of their cars in the Harris Teeter parking lot, running, shouting, and flailing their arms (careful not to spill their Starbucks’ drinks). Just moments before, a student stepped out of her car and began heading towards her bus. The driver, presumably the student’s mother, started to drive away from the parking lot when she accidentally hit her child with the car. The student lay on the ground for a few minutes, while the entire flock of moms proceeded to dial 911.
Approximately ten minutes later, the student seemed in good health and uninjured as two police cars, one firetruck, and two ambulances arrived on the scene with their sirens blaring. The paramedics brought out a stretcher, before realizing it was not necessary. Dozens of police officers, firemen, and paramedics stood around attempting to understand the situation. The moms were in full hysteria.
The traffic lurched forward and I was forced to look away from this nonsensical spectacle. I am not sure exactly how one manages to run over someone with their car, but accidents do happen so let us all be mindful of our surroundings while driving. Be sure to check for objects or persons surrounding your vehicle before driving and be mindful of pedestrians and bikers, to avoid future incidents.
