WELCOME BACK RAPTORS!
This year the first game kicks off this Friday night against Oceanside! There is a lot expected from the new team this year. There are 40 players on the team, more than we have ever had, and all are expected to surpass the record 8-3 season that the legendary team set last year. Some major changes have been made to the roster, the main being the loss of running back Nate Schlosser, who rushed over 3000 combined yards in the past two seasons. He will be replaced by his younger brother, Sophomore Steven Schlosser, who gained 500 rushing yards in his freshman year, and Ben Waters. Other players to watch out for in the upcoming games are Seniors Potter Seibels (QB), Alex Pastis (OL/DL), and Campbell Gerrard (LB). Campbell posted 79 tackles last season, with Alex coming close with 77. These two seniors will play a key role in stopping the offensive pushes this season.
In relation to the games this year, Senior Ethan Linhart (RB) is conducting his senior thesis on sports marketing and how to increase attendance rates at football games.
We interviewed some of the players below.
What are you doing to increase attendance rates at the games this year?
“In order to increase attendance rates at football games this season, I have decided to implement multiple sports marketing techniques including relationship marketing, social media marketing, activities during halftime of all home games, and community service events. Furthermore, I will attempt to establish a more positive relationship between the entire football program and our local community ” – Ethan
As a 4th year player, you have had a lot of experience in the field. In what ways are you going to exercise your responsibility as a captain to help the younger, less experienced become better in any way?
“Being a vocal leader in the huddle, I will help guide the offense (with the new starters) down the field, including one of our new, young freshman starters William Schnell at running back” – Potter
Do you think Steven can successfully replace Nate?
“I don’t think Steve needs to try to replace Nate. As long as he is giving us his all (which he always does), we will do well this year. This goes for everyone on the team. Steve is a powerhouse running back and I know he is going to have a great year” – Alex
“We have always had the philosophy of ‘next man up’, Steven had a great season last year and I have every confidence he can improve on that with a starting role” – Jack
Do you think we can beat our 8-3 record from last season?
“Yeah of course. Records are made to be broken” – Campbell
How do you feel about the first-year players this year?
“I feel like they will do pretty well and step up to fill the gaps from last year” – Andrew
“I’m excited about the turnout, we’ve had a lot of first year players come out and they add a lot to the team” – Ben
Come cheer on the team as we strive for a perfect season this year!
