Siblings are some of the only pairs who can simultaneously be the bane of the other’s existence and a lifelong best friend. Here are some of the sibling pairs that gave me sufficient information to work with based on their survey responses.
Caitlin and Owen Farr:
Caitlin and Owen are one of the more chaotic sibling pairs at Magnet. Owen is a sophomore and Caitlin is a senior. The two have been going to Magnet together for a little over a year and seem to enjoy it. Caitlin cites incidents of “see[ing] Owen in the hallways” and “mak[ing] him do work for Cookie Club” while Owen remarks that he likes going to school with his sister but “she is very angry in the morning.” Owen claims that he is very different from his sister because “[s]he is short and I am tall and I am smart,” but according to Caitlin, a major difference between the pair is that she is “capable of parking.” She also notes that she is “really happy…that [they] look nothing alike.” Besides that, these two have many similarities such as their shared love for Canes. Caitlin ranks Owen a 5 on the one to ten annoyance scale because “sometimes he acts special in front of [her] friends.” Apparently Caitlin is more annoying because Owen ranked her “like a 6 or 7” on the scale. Caitlin would like to tell Owen to “[c]ome on the girls Edisto trip with us” and encourages all the ladies to add her brother on snapchat. Owen simply wishes to convey the message “Rune Giant.”
Logan and Lillian Patterson:
Despite Logan being significantly taller than Lillian, Logan is a freshman and Lillian is a senior. Logan notes that a definite upside of having a senior sister is that he knows a lot of other seniors. In other words, he is a nepo baby. Logan’s favorite memory with Lillian is that time when “She got [him] coffee the other day,” which is valid as caffeine is the most important food group. In terms of similarities and differences, Logan states that they “both have the same parents and brother,” a fact that is in no way already obvious. Lillian’s brother rates her ability to annoy him as a ten out of ten because she is “very annoying.” He would also like to tell her that “she is nice” as a prank.
Sam and Lila Eberly:
Sam and Lila are a freshman and junior sibling pair. Sam enjoys his sister’s existence for the purpose of carpooling. Her ability to drive him to school is one of his favorite things about his sister. The two are obviously very different as Sam notes that “[s]he’s a girl and I am not.” What an enlightening insight. Although Sam only ranks Lila a six out of ten on the annoyance scale, he cites his favorite memory with her as the time she left for summer camp. That seems contradictory but he also noted that “[s]he used to annoy me a lot more than she does now” which may explain this discrepancy. Sam would like to tell his sister “Hi Lila Eberly” and in additional information he noted that “[s]he does not like math.” Good to know I guess.
Lane and Zadie Hawk:
Lane is a junior and Zadie is a senior. Lane and Zadie like going to school together because it prevents fights over the car. They also like going on trips together. When asked about similarities, Zadie claims that they have “lowkey none”, which I somehow doubt. Zadie ranks Lane a five out of ten on the annoyance scale. She also states that “I feel like it’s standard for your sibling to annoy you. If they don’t you are missing out on good stories for when you are adults that you can laugh about later.” What a wonderful piece of wisdom. Zadie would like to tell Lane “I will be sad to have a roommate next year that is not you. We will be breaking our 17 year streak, very sad.” Zadie also would like to say “Older siblings>” which I think is objectively untrue.
Catherine and Elena Barber:
Catharine is a freshman this year and Elena is a senior. Catharine also enjoys the older sibling privilege of carpooling as well as Elena’s ability to get her food. It appears she has the correct priorities. In contrast, Elena notes that driving Catharine to school can be “a bit annoying.” However, she does enjoy seeing her little sister in the hallways. Both sisters designate sharing a room as one of their favorite memories which is fabulous. They both also noted that their differences lie in their hair texture and style of clothing. They seem to agree on a lot. Maybe they cheated and did the survey together. Regardless, Elena ranked Catharine a two out of ten for annoyance for “leav[ing] the mirror open on the visor in the car” while Catharine ranked Elena a ten out of ten because “[s]he is loud, obnoxious, and makes fun of me.” As far as messages go, Elena would like to tell Catharine “[o]h, hello, I didn’t notice you” as some part of a secret reference that she didn’t care to clue anyone in on. Catharine would like to tell Elena “no.”
Nathaniel and Andrew Wohlfeil:
These two juniors are presumably twins although since I have no confirmation, I will say that they are allegedly twins. Nathaniel notes that benefits of having his maybe twin go to the same school as him include seeing each other in classes and gaining help with confusing classwork. The two enjoy playing video games together, “[a]lways the best, whatever game” as Nathaniel notes. That’s adorable. In terms of similarities and differences, these brothers have different interests and friend groups. Nathaniel also notes that he is short, or rather that his brother is “taller and larger than [him] by a noticeable amount.” Way to throw yourself under the bus there. Nathaniel claims that Andrew is very annoying, giving him an eight out of ten on the annoyance ranking scale. His rationale is that “[t]here is no particular explanation, only people with siblings would understand.” That is so true. Andrew likely also thinks his maybe twin is annoying as Nathaniel used the additional information section of the survey to criticize his brother’s spending habits. He’s probably just looking out for him or maybe not. Andrew, Nathaniel would like to send a very clear message, “Go easier on the cologne please.” Remember to be nice to each other maybe twins.
In conclusion, sometimes siblings can be really annoying but they’re mostly okay. If anyone reading has a sibling, remember to take the time today to tell them that they are mostly adequate. If no one ends up doing that, it’s okay. Siblings are mostly stuck with each other anyway.
