Magnet Soccer Players Win Club State Cup

December 13th marked the end of the girl’s club soccer season with the esteemed South Carolina State Cup playoffs. Magnet seniors Maddy Carens, Maegan Reed, and Allyson Peurifoy won their last ever club State Cup Championship with a victory over SCUFC. The game was a nail-biter that ended in penalty kicks, but Maddy Carens started the team’s stellar performance with a shot that went straight to the back of the net. Even though this was the last time these seniors could win a club State Cup title, they have a great shot at winning a fourth straight State Cup Championship for Academic Magnet.

Freshman Maggie Van Thullenar, who is on the U15 USA Mount Pleasant Premier team, also took home a State Cup win over the weekend. As the goalkeeper for the team, she played a huge role in the team’s win. In my opinion, she is a great prospect for this year’s Magnet team.

Seniors Zach Lanning and Dyan Robinson played the weekend before in the boy’s State Cup finals. Their team also defeated their opponents in the finals and are the reigning 2015 State Cup Champions.
