Lucy Needs Your Help!

Lucy Boyle is currently in eighth grade at the East Cooper Charter Montessori School and she plans to attend AMHS next year.  Her hobbies include pottery, knitting, reading, and cooking and her favorite subjects are science and math.  Recently she memorized the first 60 digits of pi!  She loves designing computer games, and wants to pursue this as a career one day.

However, right now, this soon-to-be fellow Raptor needs our help!  This past fall, Lucy was diagnosed with a severe malformation of the third cervical vertebrae that was intensely compressing her spinal cord, putting her at an alarmingly high risk of catastrophic injury and paralysis.  The only way to possibly fix this would be to have an extremely risky and complicated surgery that few surgeons in the world perform.

The 14 hour surgery procedure was performed February 23 at the Boston Children’s Hospital.  During the surgery, her spinal cord shut down.  At this point, the prognosis is uncertain.  She is currently in Boston’s ICU on a ventilator and can only move her shoulders.  Everyone hopes she will be able to recover function and mobility, but at this point it is uncertain.

For the best hope at recovery, Lucy needs to be moved to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite Hospital for intensive spine rehabilitation.  However, the medical transportation flight will cost approximately $10,000 to $25,000, and most likely will not be covered by insurance.  The family also has many costs included travel expenses, lost wages, and out-of-network copays.

The family has started a crowd-funding online to try to raise the money for Lucy.  So, we are hoping that the Magnet Community can help this cause.  Please, you can donate any dollar amount, and every single dollar helps!  Go to this link to donate:
