Potter Seibels: United States Naval Academy
Potter Seibels will be attending the United States Naval Academy in Maryland this fall. Over the years, Potter has been a star player on the Varsity lacrosse and football teams and an avid school sports supporter. Here’s how he feels about the upcoming year:
When did you first decide that you wanted to be in the military?
Why do you want to be in the military?
” A former graduate from my middle school went to the Naval Academy and he came back and spoke to us and that’s when I decided”
Why did you choose the Naval Academy?
“Because I’ve grown up in Charleston on the water”
Do you want to be in combat?
“I’m keeping my options open, but I really don’t want to go in submarines”
What are you most looking forward to?
“Staying fit in college, meeting a bunch of really cool, smart, athletic people, and having a structured lifestyle”
What are you most nervous about?
“Going from civilian life to military life”
Are you worried that it will be difficult?
“Not too worried, I don’t think it will be a really hard adjustment”
Are you interested in making a career out of the military?
“Not sure right now”
What are you planning to major in?
“Oceanography and Naval Architecture”
What other activities do you plan to do?
How do you feel about not being able to have your phone for a while?
“I’m really excited to not have the distraction of my phone”
What do you anticipate will be the hardest part?
“The daily stress of being at a military school, getting up at 5 am, and the high level academics”
How do you feel about getting a buzz cut?
“I’m looking forward to not having to deal with my hair”
