Should Magnet Students Have Early Outs?

Carter Shubert, Staff Writer

Magnet students are the best of the bunch and are the reason that our school is top ten in the nation.  We do thesis, take all honors and AP classes, and make straight A’s.  Shouldn’t we be rewarded for all of our hard work.  Meanwhile, the students at Wando and James Island are taking 3 CP classes and are coming to school for two and half hours per day.  I’m no doctor, but shouldn’t better students who work much harder get the same perks if not more.

The students at Academic Magnet barely sleep so the least we could be given is a few hours off a couple days every week.  This would give us extra time to sleep and do homework if they really wanted to.  Also, an early out would provide some relaxation time for students in the midst of a stressful year.  If the student so chooses we can have more time to work on school work in their extra time and do a better job on it.  But realistically, the students can binge watch Netflix and spend more time with friends.  Another positive of early outs is that we will have time to actually eat a meal instead of rushing around and gain the nutrition that is important to their health.

Not only do students at Academic Magnet High School have a rigorous class schedule, but on top of this we have to write a senior thesis.  This is all the more reason for students to have some time off of school to get their head in the right place.  Early outs have proven to raise test scores because students get more rest and have more time to prepare.  The pros of early outs seem to outweigh the cons so I’ll let you decide, should magnet students have early outs?
