Academic Magnet Girl’s and Boy’s swim team heads into the 2016-2017 swim season with a new coach from Kentucky named Jonas Sosa. The girls are coming off an undefeated season, and are defending a State Championship title while the boys are trying to better their runner up status from last year to receive their 3rd State Championship. The first meet is this Thursday at the Shadowmoss pool against West Ashley. Then the team will travel to Myrtle Beach for the Ripley’s Invitational Friday, and swim on Saturday. The Girl’s team has a long tradition of winning this meet and hopes to continue this streak. The swimming schedule is below. Everyone should come to at least one swim meet. It’s an experience that everyone in the AMHS student body should get at least once in their high school career. The order of events for a normal high school swim meet is as follows:

200 Medley Relay
200 Freestyle
200 IM
50 Freestyle
100 Butterfly
100 Freestyle
500 Freestyle
200 Free Relay
100 Backstroke
100 Breaststroke
400 Free Relay

The best events to watch are the relays, especially the 200 free relay and the 50 free. COME TO A SWIM MEET, you probably won’t regret it!!
