Broke With Expensive Taste

Broke-With-Expensive-TasteFinally, after two years of working on it, Azealia Banks has dropped her first full album.  Broke With Expensive Taste celebrates the fast-paced, glamorous lifestyle of New York City.  In addition to the city’s other success stories including A$AP Mob, French Montana, and Nicki Minaj, Banks has accelerated the music scene in female hip-hop and R&B culture.  From “JFK”, the name of the airport, to “212”, Manhattan’s area code , each track takes the listener through different neighborhoods and boroughs of New York—exposing us to the underground music scene of these cultures.  Sarah Paolantonio called the album “stick and glossy, and sharp and gooey.  Sometimes it’s in Spanish, but mostly it just spills all over you.”  Colors, flaws, shapes, moans, broken echoes, singing, rapping, screams, and whispers: there is so much to hear in this album.  Amidst the chaos, Banks throws in sounds of the city: subway announcements, dogs barking, and rattles from drum machines.  Listen to the new album for free at: http://www.azealiabanks.com
