The Glass of Water Is Half Full

Water Missions International is a non-profit organization that helps to provide clean and safe water for people around the world.  The organization helps to educate people and improve their health as to benefit communities as a whole.  Water Missions has developed water purification systems to treat non potable water so that these communities do not get sick from the water they are currently drinking.  The organization is based out of North Charleston and was started in 2001. Water Missions has helped over three million people in fifty-two countries around the world since its inception.  Water Missions International has over 250 employees that work in the Caribbean, Asia, South America, Central America, North America, and Africa.

The mission statement of Water Missions is “Changing lives through sustainable water systems” and is a really important organization when it comes to times of natural disasters.  Engineers have been working on developing technology that is user friendly and can quickly and effectively provide safe water for people in underdeveloped countries.  Water Missions has developed a system known as WASH solutions that focus on clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.  Many communities around the world are contacting Water Missions to receive the aid that they need and better their own community as a whole.

The seniors in AP Environmental classes at Magnet had the opportunity of visiting Water Missions to see how the process works and learn a little more about the organization.  The organization provides water to anyone that is in need of water and wants help.  After they introduce their solutions, Water Missions preaches the gospel to the community and teaches them about God and Christianity.  Water Missions does not discriminate in who they provide; they “serve all people regardless of age, gender, race or faith.”  Water Missions International hopes to increase the amount of safe drinking water around the world and reduce the risk of sickness and disease.  As a sustainable organization, they are spreading to different parts of the world to increase their amazing impact.
