“A day without immigrants” is a protest in reaction to President Trump’s recent immigration policies. Immigrants of all kind, both documented and undocumented took a stand by not attending school and work as well as boycotting shopping on Thursday February 16.
The impacts of this protest could be felt throughout the Lowcountry as many stores closed down for the day. Immigrants wanted to make a statement, showing Mr. Trump their positive effects in local communities. By boycotting this day they showed  the loss that may come from the president’s  recent immigration policies. Advocates against the policy feel that building a wall is not an appropriate solution to the issue. Diana Salazar stated, “There’s millions of undocumented (immigrants) here. Putting a wall is not going to solve it. It’s making a new immigration law that will provide safety for all the undocumented.”
Whether you are with or against the new policies, all can agree on the fact that in upcoming months the heated debate on President Trump’s plans will continue. The Talon staff will keep you updated on all you need to know about new changes in the works for our country.
