Love is in the Air

Valentine’s Day: The only day when people can show their love for their significant other. The average spending per year on Valentine’s Day alone is over 13 BILLION dollars. A common tradition for this day of gift exchanging and credit-card-emptying is for the men to buy flowers and the women to buy cards, as men purchase 73% of all flowers bought and women acquire 85% of all cards. A whopping 62% of the U.S. population celebrate Valentine’s Day with their loved ones, but this was not the case at Academic Magnet High School.

Until we came along.

After interviewing many people who were roaming the hallways during the middle of class trying to escape lackluster lectures, it was found that most people either do not have a date for this magical holiday, or they do not yet have plans with their significant other. Some people with plans were interviewed:

“Well me and Ryan are going to spend some good time together, we might do some baking. Ryan is my valentine” – Lexi

“I’m just gonna go get dinner with my amazing boyfriend Campbell” – Abby

“I’m treating my girlfriend to a romantic dinner at Hall’s Chophouse. She might not be real but I sure am going to have a good time” – Connor

“Me and Nate are going to get Chick Fil A in the morning. A platter of Chickn Minis with like 35 packets of Chick Fil A sauce is better than some stupid chocolates” – Capers

“I’m going to take my favorite lady friend, Lidia, to a nice meal on the town” – Potter

“Get food!! Lots of food” – Katie

“I have soccer practice because Valentines Day is on a week night. I’ll probably end up doing homework after” – Gabi

We then found some single people who wanted something other than to stay at home alone at home on the 14th of February. Deciding to match them up, we interviewed each of them about their qualities and what they want in a relationship, and matched them up with out gifted matchmaking skills.

Here’s the lineup for suggested dates:

Carter Shubert + Grace Gehlkin = a couple who is nice looking, has amazing personality, loves to have fun. Carter wants someone who cares about him and goes out of his or her way to do nice things, which Grace Gelkin is a professional at. Both of these people are funny and charming, and both are equally flirtatious. Carter wants someone who enjoys sunsets on the beach and boat rides, which Grace absolutely loves! This couple will be matched up for Valentine’s Day, and hopefully for life.

Lexi Dehart + Andrew Waddell = A couple who is the right amount of funny and nice, and who loves going downtown followed by boat rides into the sunset. Lexi was looking for a guy who is tall, dark, and handsome, and Andrew fits into almost all three qualities!

Kevin Woods + Hannah Massar: Kevin wanted someone who was pretty, smart, athletic, and most importantly – loved to surf. Coincidentally, Hannah Massar also loves to surf!! This is a true match made in the ocean.

Conor Pizii + Grace Beischel = Short couple of the decade! Conor requested someone who doesn’t have a pixi hair cut, is shorter than 5’5 and most importantly, has an inny belly button. Pretty is important, and funny is very important. Grace fits into all of these categories, and both of these young students love boat rides and sunsets!

Jacob Lipton + Erika Ludden = Memetastic! Jacob Lipton craved a girl who is really into memes, has no health issues, makes him laugh but is not funnier than he is, can’t beat him up, and doesn’t spit when she eats.

We will keep you updated on these lovely couples!
